KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — On a good night, more than 5,000 people will pack into the Atrium Health Ballpark, home of the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. The minor league baseball team is a Single-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, but their presence here in a brand new downtown ballpark is more than a training ground for major league hopefuls. It's a symbol of where the city has been and where it's going. The ballpark sits in downtown Kannapolis, between the growing commercial center of the city and the sprawling research campus.
